Vamana — Therapeutic Emesis

Vamana is the first classical shodhana therapy in Panchakarma, aimed at supporting the removal of accumulated kapha through the upper route. At Arogyasudha near Rampura Dabri, Jaipur, it is offered only under registered physician supervision after full preparation.

What is this treatment?

After days of deepana-pachana, snehapana, and abhyanga-swedana, a controlled emetic formulation is given in the physician's presence. This is not sudden vomiting — it is a planned purification protocol where the graded dietary return (samsarjana krama) matters as much as the emesis day.

Classical Ayurvedic background

Charaka Samhita (Kalpa and Siddhi Sthana) and Ashtanga Hridaya (Kalpa Sthana) describe Vamana in detail. Classical texts place it first among shodhana measures for kapha-predominant conditions.

Conditions it may support

  • ·May support management of kapha-linked heaviness and respiratory discomfort
  • ·Seasonal cleansing and vitality support in Vasanta ritu
  • ·Kapha-related digestive and skin discomfort
  • ·Kapha-predominant PCOS/metabolic patterns — per vaidya assessment — supportive fertility direction

Who should undergo it?

  • ·Kapha-predominant individuals with adequate strength and suitable age, after physician clearance
  • ·Those assessed by the physician as suitable for Vamana

Who should avoid it?

  • ·Pregnancy — considered only after individual assessment.
  • ·Cardiac disease, uncontrolled hypertension
  • ·Active bleeding, marked debility
  • ·Not for children without explicit physician approval and supervision.
