Basti — Medicated Enema Therapy
Basti holds a central place in classical texts for vata management — often called 'half of treatment'. Both Niruha (decoction) and Anuvasana (oil) forms are planned individually at Arogyasudha.
What is this treatment?
Medicated decoction or oil is introduced through the rectal route. Niruha basti is cleansing-predominant; Anuvasana is oil-based and retained. Both are often alternated in a planned course.
Classical Ayurvedic background
Charaka Siddhi Sthana and Ashtanga Hridaya Kalpa/Sutra Sthana describe basti in detail. The colon is considered vata's primary seat.
Conditions it may support
- ·Vata-linked low back, joint, and spine discomfort
- ·Irregular elimination patterns
- ·Varsha ritu vata aggravation management
- ·Shukra/vata-linked male–female reproductive disorders and infertility — classical supportive direction
Who should undergo it?
- ·Vata constitution or vata disorders per physician assessment
- ·Joint and back pain where basti is deemed suitable
Who should avoid it?
- ·Active diarrhoea, acute fever
- ·Acute anorectal inflammation or wound
- ·Pregnancy — considered only after individual assessment.
